Who Should Attend: Public, private and nonprofit housing design and construction professionals and local government representatives including architects, building contractors, developers, civil engineers, project managers and local building inspectors and officials; and property managers and landlords.

Seating for this technical training is limited.

The aim of this training is to assist those involved in creating, inspecting, managing or monitoring multifamily housing or public facilities to reduce unintentional violations of the Fair Housing Act.

Topics to Be Covered: The Design and Construction Requirements of the Fair Housing Act, Units covered by the Fair Housing Act, The 7 design and construction requirements, Safe Harbors for compliance with the Fair Housing Act, Common Design and Construction Violations and Solutions, Key Legal issues and remedies in design and construction cases.

The Presenters:
Richard Mabbutt is the Executive Director of the Intermountain Fair Housing Council in Boise, Idaho. He has experience and knowledge about the Fair Housing Act (FHA) accessibility and design requirements, including over 150 site evaluations and the filing of remedial actions with the U.S. Dept. of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) and federal court. Mr. Mabbutt has conducted numerous FHA design and construction trainings and is an annual lecturer on Fair Housing Act requirements at the University of Idaho School of Architecture

Marley Hochendoner, J.D., is the Executive Director of Northwest Fair Housing Alliance (NWFHA), a non-profit Fair Housing advocacy and education agency based in Spokane. Ms. Eichstaedt is licensed as an attorney in Idaho and Washington. Since joining NWFHA, Ms. Eichstaedt has conducted numerous fair housing training workshops for housing providers and consumers and overseen counseling and advocacy services provided under four HUD Fair Housing Initiative Program grants. NWFHA conducts site audits at multi-family developments in Eastern Washington for compliance with the Fair Housing Act.

Shawn Nikfar has been NWFHA's Testing Coordinator for seven years. He has experience performing on-site audit tests and with filing accessibility complaints with HUD.
